2010 COLETO CREEK RESULTS
On Saturday April 17, 2010 the Ft. Bend County Deputy Sherriff’s Association held its annual Coleto Creek Bass Tournament.
After a beautiful week of sunshine those that headed down to the lake on Friday to do a little pre-fishing were met by torrential rains. The rains fell almost all-day with intermittent sunshine. Well on Saturday morning the skies were cloudy and the temperature was pleasant. We all took to our boats and at 7:15 am the 24 teams entered in the tournament made a shotgun start for their favorite fishing hole. Despite the rising waters, almost 10” of rain, several persons still caught a limit (5) of fish. As the tournament neared its end at 3:00pm, about 1:15pm the bottom fell out again with heavy rains, thunder and lightning. Let me tell you if you have never been in a boat travelling at 60mph in a driving rain, it feels like you have been shot in the face with birdshot. It hurts like hell. The weigh-in had to be moved inside the pavilion with the following results:
1st place Herzog and McGee 13.35lbs $550.00
2nd place Keith and Breaux 12.09lbs $500.00
3rd place Bautista and Moore 10.80lbs $400.00
4th place Franklin and Penny 10.30lbs $300.00
5th place DeLeon and Drenna 9.39 lbs $200.00
6th place Butera and Butera 9.38lbs $120.00
1st Big Bass Herzog 6.11lbs $120.00
2nd Big Bass Goodson 4.57lbs $100.00
The total amount of money collected from the teams was $2880.00 with a pay out of $2290.00. The remainder of the money went to pay for the rental of the pavilion for two days, Bar-B-Que meal, soda waters and beer. We also want to thank the Sheriff and the Chief Deputy for their monetary donations. Despite the conditions everyone seemed to have had a great time and the camaraderie was even better, if you miss it next year you will miss out on some great fun in being with your co-workers. Thanks to all who participated and a special thanks to Joe Lancaster for setting it all up.
